The Old Lion

The old lion is slowing down
He wiles away the hours resting in the shade
Dreaming of the battles that he fought and won
When he was young and brave

The old lion is fading fast
He wanders through the jungle of his memories
Forgotten times and places and the faces
Too far gone to be retrieved

CHORUS:

But once he was a king and in a young boy’s eyes
He knew everything, he was strong and he was wise
And I know that he loves me ‘cause he tells me everyday
If there’s a heaven for old lions with big hearts
Then I guess he’ll be OK

The old lion is family
The friends that he has left we count on just one hand
His body’s weak, he’s lost his mind but there’s still time
So let’s strike up the band

That old lion just loves to sing
We haven’t heard his mighty roar in quite a while
He warbles that familiar tune, the whole room joins in
To make him smile

REPEAT CHORUS:

TAG:

My old man is slowing down.
